How to use the Conversion rate calculator

  1. 01

Enter the visitors for a period, such as last month.

  2. 02

Enter the conversions from the same period: sign-ups, purchases or any goal.

  3. 03

Add a target rate to see how many more conversions the same traffic needs.

How it’s calculated

Conversion rate

Conversion rate = conversions ÷ visitors × 100

Count each converting visitor once, over the same period as the visitors.

Conversions to reach a target

More conversions = ⌈visitors × target ÷ 100⌉ − conversions

The conversions the target rate needs from the same visitors, rounded up to a whole conversion, minus what you already have.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good conversion rate?

It depends on what you count and where the traffic comes from. A free sign-up converts far more often than a paid purchase, and search visitors usually convert differently from social ones. Compare against your own past months and across your sources, not a single industry number.

Should I divide by visitors or by sessions?

Either works if you stay consistent. Visitors (unique people) tell you what share of people converted; sessions or visits tell you how often a visit ends in a conversion. This calculator uses whatever count you enter as "visitors".

Why does the target need whole conversions?

You can't get part of a conversion, so the number needed is rounded up. With 1,000 visitors, a 3.25% target needs 33 conversions, not 32.5.

How do I see conversion rate by traffic source?

An analytics tool with goals can split it for you. traffic.cx shows conversion rate and revenue per visitor for each source and campaign, so you can see which traffic converts, not only which brings the most visits.
