Your campaign link

Tagged link
https://example.com/pricing?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=october_launch

Open it once to check the page loads, then use it in your post, email or listing.

How to use the UTM builder

  1. 01

Paste the page the link should open, such as your pricing page.

  2. 02

Pick a preset or type a source and medium, then name the campaign.

  3. 03

Add a term or content only when you need to tell two links apart, then copy the link.

How it’s calculated

How the link is built

https://example.com/page?utm_source=…&utm_medium=…&utm_campaign=…

Each filled field becomes a utm_ parameter on the address. Values are URL-encoded, parameters already on the address are kept, and a #fragment stays at the end. Empty optional fields add nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Which UTM parameters do I need?

utm_source is the one every tool needs. Add utm_medium and utm_campaign too, because most reports group traffic by source, medium and campaign. utm_term and utm_content are optional.

Should UTM values be lowercase?

Yes. Many reports treat "Newsletter" and "newsletter" as two different sources, so pick one spelling and keep it. Use hyphens or underscores instead of spaces.

What medium should I use for social posts and emails?

Use social for organic posts on X or Reddit, email for newsletters, and referral for listings such as Product Hunt. Those values match the default channel rules, so the visits land in the right channel. Paid ads use a medium such as cpc.

Do UTM tags affect SEO?

Not when you use them on links you share elsewhere: posts, emails and ads. Don't put UTM tags on links between your own pages, because each click would start a new "campaign" visit in your reports.

Does traffic.cx read UTM tags?

Yes. traffic.cx records utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content, and also reads ref, via and source parameters as the source. With a payment provider connected, it shows the revenue each source and campaign brought in. See Track a UTM campaign through to revenue.
